Nigeria, 10 Other Countries to be removed from the United Kingdom's red list

The Omicron Virus, the United Kingdom said that eleven Countries will be removed from its red list on Wednesday by 4am.

Following the outbreak of the Omicron variant of covid-19, the British Government announced a travel ban on the following Countries Botswana, Eswatini, Malawi, Angola, Lesotho, Nigeria  Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. It said that the red list is a necessary precaution following the emergence of the Omicron vibrant. 

The UK Health Secretary Sajid Javid told the Parliament that the Omicron had spread so widely that the rules are no longer necessary.

On Tuesday, the UK Health Secretary Sajid Javid pointed out that,

“Now that there is community transmission of Omicron in the UK and Omicron has spread so widely across the world, the travel red list is now less effective in slowing the incursion of Omicron from abroad."

He went further to say, 

"Whilst we will maintain our temporary testing measures for international travel, we will be removing all 11 countries from the travel red list effective from 4am tomorrow morning."

Instead, all travellers arriving in England will be able to isolate at home. If double vaccinated, they can be released with a negative PCR test taken within two days of arrival. If not they must stay at home for 10 days and get a test before day two and another on day eight or later.
