President Buhari Signs Electoral Act Amendment Bill Into Law. The Electoral Act Amendment Bill has finally been signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari.  The President okayed the bill at past noon on Friday at a brief procession held at the Council Chamber of the Aso Villa in Abuja. The President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, witnessed the signing of the bill. Members of the President’s cabinet in attendance included his Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, among others. This comes barely a week to the expiration of the window the President has to take a decision on the proposed legislation, as required by the Nigerian Constitution. In Abuja on Tuesday Some Civil Society Organisations protested over the alleged delay by the President in signing the bill into law. The bill is expected to strengthen the electoral process.

Nigerian Federal Lawmaker, Accused Of Forging BSc, Master’s Degrees By The Anti-corruption Agency, ICPC. The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) has accused a member of the House of Representatives, Mohammed Garba Gololo (Gamawa Federal Constituency of Bauchi State), of forging his first and second degrees’ certificates. The commission said both certificates were doctored.  In an eight-count charge it filed at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the commission said Garba-Gololo forged his BSc and Masters degrees. Gololo claimed to have attended the Lagos State University (LASU), where he purportedly obtained both certificates. Abba Kyari, is demanding N500 million in damages from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) over alleged unlawful arrest and detention.
