● Two soldiers, five others killed as gunmen attack Soludo’s hometown.

No fewer than six  persons were  feared killed in Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s Isuofia community, as gunmen engaged security operatives in a gun battle.

Those who were said to have lost their lives in the community in  Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State were two soldiers and four gunmen.

The incident, The Nation was told, took place on Saturday morning in Soludo’s Isuofia community.

Despite some very tight races, Democrats have held on to their slim majority in the U.S. Senate.

● APC, PDP trade words over Tinubu’s candidacy.

The Peoples Democratic Party has said that it has every option to challenge the candidacy of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, including his eligibility to contest the 2023 general elections having been allegedly indicted and subjected to criminal forfeiture judgement for a narcotic related offence by a United States Court in Northern Illinois, Chicago.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo paused his speech midway to recognise Bola Tinubu alias Emilokan, after initially forgetting to offer the courtesy.

It was at the funeral of the Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s mother held on Saturday at St Andrew’s Anglican Church in Owo, Ondo State.

● Tinubu donates N40m to flood victims in Edo.

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) donated N40 million to flood victims in Edo on Sunday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the floods displaced about 32,893 persons in Etsako Central, Etsako East and Esan Southeast Local Government Areas of Edo.

● NDLEA nabs Lagos hotelier over drug trafficking allegations.

Ten days after he was declared wanted, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have arrested fleeing Lagos socialite and owner of Adekaz Hotels, Alhaji Ademola Afolabi Kazeem (a.k.a Alhaji Abdallah Kazeem Muhammed) over offences bordering on exportation and trafficking of illicit drugs as well as money laundering.

BREAKING: CBN To Stop Selling Forex To Banks This Year

  The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has put Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) on notice that it will stop selling forex to them by the end of 2022. CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele made this known in Abuja on Thursday at the end of the Bankers’ Committee Meeting where he also introduced the RT200 Programme. Emefiele said the time had come for the banks to go out there and source for forex by funding entrepreneurs with ideas. Emefiele also disclosed that the apex bank’s policies and measures have led to a significant improvement in diaspora inflow from an average of US$6 million per week in December 2020 to an average of over US$100 million per week by January 2022. The CBN, he said, would be reviewing these intervention programmes going forward to ensure that they continue to achieve the desired results. Source: The Nation
