Maitama, Abuja - One Shot Dead As Suspected ‘Kidnappers’ Strike

 

One person was gunned down when men suspected to be kidnappers attacked Gana Street in Maitama, Abuja.

The incident is said to have occurred at about 8:46pm on Wednesday.

According to the Daily Trust,  a resident, who pleaded anonymity, told Daily Trust that the victim was killed while trying to rescue a man that was being forced into a black Prado SUV by the suspected kidnappers.

He specifically said the SUV was parked at Number 44 Gana street where the victim was shot in the head by one of the suspects and he died immediately.

The source added that the suspects escaped with their victim while the body of the deceased was still on the street at the time of the incident. He added that this is the second incident happening at the same Gana street in the past few weeks.

The resident said some persons loitering around the place may be behind the attacks.

He said the boys loitering around area usually target pharmaceutical stores and supermarket in Maitama, alleging that police have not been doing anything to secure supermarkets and pharmaceutical stores.

When contacted, spokesperson of the police in the FCT Command, Josephine Adeh, who also confirmed the development to our correspondent, said the police had already launched manhunt for the assailants.

Adeh, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, dismissed the allegations that police have not been doing anything to secure supermarkets in the area.

She said, “We are investigating. But that the police have not been doing anything to secure pharmacies in the area is not true. The CP has been working round the clock to ensure that the FCT is safe and secured for everyone to go about their business “

Prince Charles, Prince Of Wales, Reportedly Accepted Suitcase With 1 Million Euros From Qatari Sheikh

A British newspaper, the Sunday Times, reported the Prince of Wales once accepted a suitcase containing €1 million ($1.05 million) in cash from a Qatari politician. The paper says this was one of three cash donations from Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim totalling three million euros. Ghana's Afua Asantewaa Sing-A-Thon

Ms Afua Asantewaa, Ghanaian media personality has completed a five-day singing marathon. Afua Asantewaa Wrapped in her country's flag, she thanked the crowd of supporters in the capital, Accra, for their immense support, in hopes her performance will earn her a Guinness World Record. Beginning on Christmas Eve, Asantewaa performed for 126 hours and 52 minutes. Beating a previous sing-a-thon record by nearly 24 hours, the clearly exhausted, 33-year-old could barely remember what day it was. According to the rules set by Guinness World Records she was allowed a five-minute break every hour, or 20 minutes after four hours.
