ASUU Calls Members For An Emergency Meeting Thursday

In order for a review of recent developments emanating from the discussions held with the Federal Government.The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, will convene an emergency National Executive Council, NEC meeting on Thursday to deliberate on their next line of action.

The meeting is expected to take place at its headquarters in Abuja. 

Members views, from the zonal to the national level are expected to be collated via votes.The union has directed its zonal branches to collate the views of members.

Its various zones are expected to hold meetings tomorrow across the country.

The president of ASUU, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, while responding to enquiry, dismissed reports that ASUU has called off its strike action, he said that the strike was yet to be suspended.

He, assured Nigerians that the union was working towards the suspension of the action, saying the action would be dependent on the views of members from the zonal meetings.

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Wins Big In Governor Nyesom Wike's Local Government Area

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, has won the Obio-Akpor, the Local Government Area of Governor Nyesom Wike in Rivers State by a landslide. Tinubu polled 80,239 votes to defeat the Candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, who came a distant second with 3,829 and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who got 368 votes.

Turkey freezes assets of 770 people for alleged terror links

ISTANBUL (AP) — Turkey froze the assets of 770 Turkish nationals and a Chicago-based foundation, according to a decision published Friday in the country’s official gazette. The list of targets includes 454 people with alleged links to Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen, who lives in the United States. The Turkish government accuses Gulen and his network of being behind a bloody coup attempt in 2016. Gulen has denied the allegation. Gulen is the honorary president of the Chicago foundation that had its assets in Turkey frozen. The Niagara Foundation’s parent organization, the Alliance for Shared Values, is a nonprofit of the Gulen movement, which Turkey designated as a terror group. The list published Friday shows 119 other people had assets frozen for links to the Islamic State group, Al-Qaeda, the al-Nusra Front and other alleged “terror groups that abuse religion.” Another 108 people were targeted for alleged links to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party or PKK, which is designated a terror group...
