A Time In History

In 1971, LIFE photographer Michael Rougier spent time with Tippi Hedren; her teenage daughter, Melanie Griffith. Also in attendance: Neil, a 400-pound mature lion.

While in her teens, Melanie, Griffith, Academy Award-nominated actress and ex wife of Antonio Banderas had a 400-pound mature lion called Neil, who occasionally slept in the same bed as Griffith.

Griffith's mother, Tippi Hedren, an actress and a animal-rights activist and conservationist has since acknowledged that it was “stupid beyond belief” to put her family at risk by allowing an animal with “no conscience or remorse genes” to roam free.

'I grew up with lions, tigers and 2 elephants,' Griffith confessed.

PDP Gets New National Chairman - Confirms, The Chairman (North), Amb. Umar Illiya Damagum, As Acting National Chairman

A Benue High Court on Monday ordered Ayu to stop parading himself as national chairman of the PDP pending determination of the suit before it. The National Working Committee, NWC of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), acting on the order, yesterday, confirmed its Deputy National Chairman (North), Amb. Umar Illiya Damagum, as acting national chairman after Ayu, stepped aside in honor to the court order.  The PDP NWC took the decision at an emergency meeting, yesterday reports the Vanguard news. Ayu will cease to function as national chairman until the court says otherwise. Stakeholders in the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who want the National Chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, to quit the position, have succeeded, at least in the interim. The New Naira Notes Leaves Ink When Rubbed On White Surfaces – The Nigerian Security Printing and Minting (NSPM) Plc Throws More Light

On Friday, the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting (NSPM) Plc, responsible for printing the naira notes, explained why the new Naira notes leave ink when rubbed on plain white surfaces. In a statement on Friday, signed by NSPM’s Managing Director, Ahmed Halilu, as regards various clips, skits, concerns and comments on diverse platforms regarding the quality of the redesigned notes.
