Angelina Jolie Set To Visit Pakistan’s Flood Ravaged Areas

Hollywood Super star, Angelina Jolie, the actress, film maker and humanitarian is set to visit Pakistan. The country is hit by a ravaging flood.

Sherry Rehman, Pakistan’s minister for climate change, described the situation as;

“The worst humanitarian disaster of this decade” and has called for urgent international help in providing “food, tents and medicines.”

The International the International Rescue Committee (IRC) released a statement on Monday, confirming that Jolie will visit the flood-ravaged Pakistan.

Her trip is intended to draw international attention to the country’s unfolding crisis.

The country’s Government has already declared it a humanitarian disaster. The lives of more than 1,500 people have been lost to flooding and  the flood is impacting on an estimated 33 million more. It is affecting crops and livestock, washing away homes, bridges, roads and railways.

A third of the country’s land, has so far being affected by the flooding. The lands have given way and are now submerged by the flood.

The flood is as a result of record monsoon rains and melting glaciers in Pakistan’s northern mountain regions.

Authorities are afraid of an impending widespread occurrence of infectious diseases such as cholera and dengue. They stipulate that for the flood waters to recede in the country’s hardest-hit areas, it could take up to six months.

According to UNICEF, "The severe flooding has left an estimated 3.4 million children in need of “immediate, lifesaving support." The children are vulnerable to contracting water-borne diseases, including dengue fever and malaria.

Jolie “is visiting to witness and gain understanding of the situation, and to hear from people affected directly about their needs, and about steps to prevent such suffering in the future,” the statement said.

She will visit the IRC’s response operations and local organizations that are assisting displaced people, it added.

It is unclear whether Jolie has arrived in Pakistan, or how long the trip is expected to last.

Israel To Pump Water From The Mediterranean sea, To Top Up The Sea Of Galilee

  The Sea of Galilee, Israel, despite its name, the Sea of Galilee in northern Israel is actually a freshwater lake, and it's one that has sustained life for millennia. Even today, the lake irrigates vineyards and local farms that grow everything from green vegetables to wheat and tangerines. Its archeology, hot springs and hiking trails bring tourism and livelihoods for local communities. But this place of religious pilgrimage — where the New Testament says many of Jesus' miracles were performed — is facing a bleak future, CNN reports. The climate crisis is causing huge fluctuations in the lake's water levels. Now it happens to be fairly full, but just five years ago, it hit a record low. Climate change and unsustainable water management are leaving lakes dried up all over the Middle East and beyond, but the Israeli government is hopeful it has a solution: It plans to pump water from the Mediterranean sea, take the salt out of it and send it across the country to top up th...

London(CNN)Boris Johnson has apologized for attending an event in the back garden of 10 Downing Street on May 20, 2020, at which point Britons were prohibited from gathering due to strict coronavirus restrictions. At the start of the weekly session of Prime Minister's Questions, Johnson said he did attend the gathering for 25 minutes before going inside to work. He said he believed the gathering to be a work event, but with hindsight conceded he should have sent attendees back inside. Leader of the opposition Keir Starmer said the UK Prime Minister's excuse that he "did not realize he was at a party" was "ridiculous" and "offensive." The Labour Party leader went on to ask if the Prime Minister would resign. "After months of deceit and deception, the pathetic spectacle of a man who has run out of road," Starmer said. The Prime ...
