Child Trafficking-Police Arrest ‘Fake Reverend, Rescue 15 children in Rivers State


The operation restore peace personnel of the command, while acting on credible information regarding hideout of child traffickers, stormed Omuigwe Abuja Phase II, Aluu, in Ikwerre LGA on the 3rd of September 2022, where a lady who claimed to be Rev. Sister Maureen Wechinwu ‘f’ aged 44yrs was arrested,” the commissioner said.

“Fifteen children were rescued, case transferred to CP monitoring unit for discrete investigation.

“One of the rescued children — Prosper Godwin (m) — was abducted at Ikpazasia market in Bayelsa State on 31/10/2021 and was taken to the suspects.

"Later, he was sold to a woman at Lagos and subsequently returned back to the suspect. The parents — Mr. and Mrs. Godwin Ododor — have been contacted and they corroborated the statement of the child.

“Queen Harry was abducted at Ojukwu filed Mile 1, Diobu, Port Harcourt at about 1900hrs, while on an errand for the elder sister. The mother — Mrs. Florence — has been contacted and she corroborated the facts.

“We are yet to locate the parents of the remaining 10 children for identification. Investigation is ongoing with the view of arresting other suspects linked in the case.”

MEANWHILE, Wechinwu in an interview, said she has become a disgrace to her people and herself, insisting that she is not into trafficking.

She said: “I run an Orphanage home with children of mad people. Fransisca Onyinyechi, who was given birth to by a mad woman in Ogbogoro community market.

“I cannot say that I am a reverend sister now that I am a disgrace. But I believe I used to be.

“I am of the Ladies of Victory Missionary Sisters. It is in England. Foreign Congregation. I am the only Nigerian in it.

“Some of the children are from mentally challenged people. The others were brought to me by one Mr. Victor. Sometimes, he comes with them in twos. One Miss Alice brought two to me. Alice said since I am a beginner that I should take them.

Sometimes when victor brings children he will be demanding money. But due to the pressure on me sometimes I give N50,000, N60,000, and N100, 000.”

But, two women who have already identified their children at the police headquarters Rivers State  have expressed joy over the police operation that led to the rescue of their children.

U.S. Donates 2.5 Million Doses Of Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccines To Nigeria

The United States has announced the donation of 2.5 million Pfizer vaccine doses to Nigeria. This was disclosed in a statement by the U.S Embassy on Thursday. According to the statement, the vaccine doses arrived in Abuja this week and were received by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency and taken to cold storage in preparation for distribution. The vaccines are planned to be distributed to over 3,000 health facilities across all 36 states and FCT-Abuja. The statement added that the vaccines in the next few weeks will be available across major locations for vaccination in the country. “Over the next several weeks, the vaccines will be available at major markets, shopping malls, event centers, motor parks, airports, places of employment, and religious institutions as part of Nigeria’s mass vaccination campaign.” The statement added that, “the United States has donated more than 13.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine in partnership with COVAX, or bilaterally to Nigeria. “...
