Academic Staff Union of Universities Appeals Court's Ruling To Resume Work

When two Elephants fight, the grass indeed gets hurt. The brutal tussle between the Nigerian Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is still on, as the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities will on Friday (today) file an appeal against the ruling of the National Industrial Court which directed its members to resume work.

The legal Counsel for ASUU, Femi Falana (SAN), disclosed this in an interview in Abuja on Thursday.

To reiterate its demands for enhanced funding for universities and a review of salaries for lecturers, among other pressing issues. The Academic Staff Union embarked on an industrial strike action since February 14, 2022.

On Wednesday Justice Polycarp Hamman ordered the union’s members back to work.

However, Femi Falana (SAN) has responded, he said;

“We are filing the appeal tomorrow (Friday) morning. We just got the certified true copy of the judgment on Thursday. The appeal will be filed first thing Friday morning.”

The battle lives on! The students suffer!

Breaking! Governorship, State Assembly Elections Postponed By The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) To March 18, 2023

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reached a decision to postpone Saturday’s governorship and state assembly elections to March 18, 2023. The postponement was due to the commission’s inability to promptly commence reconfiguration of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines utilized during the February 25 presidential election to enable their use in the state elections. INEC was earlier restrained from tampering with the information embedded in the BVAS machines until due inspection was conducted and Certified True Copies (CTC) issued to candidates who are challenging the outcome of the presidential election.

People shouldn’t get the Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine when the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna shots are available, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Thursday.
