Funeral Mass Held-Victims Of Owo Church Massacre

A funeral mass was held on Friday for the victims of the gun attack in early June at a church in Owo, Ondo State, Nigeria.

It was a tragic day for the people of ancient Owo Kingdom in Ondo State and the Nation at large as gunmen invaded St Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Owaluwa, Owo on Sunday June 5, 2022 and opened fire on 127 worshippers, killing several persons..

A group of armed men stormed the congregation during a Pentecost mass the St Francis Catholic Church in Owo, south-western Nigeria, nearly 50 people died in the shooting after the attackers came in on motorcycles.

The venue of the requiem mass at the Mydas Resort and Hotel was pent up with pains and agonies of bereaved families and loved ones. The clergy and laity who came to bid the victims farewell could not control the tear streaming down their cheeks.

Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, and a former governor of the state, Olusegun Mimiko, were among the dignitaries present at the mass.

After the shooting, Pope Francis offered prayers for the victims who were "painfully attacked at a time of celebration," a statement from the Vatican said.

Police Service Commission Suspends Officers Indicted In Abba Kyari's Drug Deal

Police Service Commission (PSC) has suspended officers indicted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) along with suspended DCP Abba Kyari.
