Jussie Smollett has been sentenced Thursday to 150 days in jail for staging a hate crime against himself, the former Empire actor, 39, was taken into custody immediately, screaming as he left the Chicago courtroom.

"I'm not suicidal, and I am innocent," he yelled before disappearing through the door. With a fist in the air, he added, "I could have said I was guilty a long time ago."

He will be spending his first night in Cook County Jail.

After being processed as an inmate, he has been assigned the booking number 20220310140.

  Kobe Bryant's widow has been awarded $16m (£13.6m) in damages over leaked graphic photos of the helicopter crash that killed the US basketball star and his daughter in 2020. Vanessa Bryant, 40, said she had panic attacks after learning images taken by Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies and firefighters had been shared. A federal jury now said the county must pay Mrs Bryant for emotional distress. Co-plaintiff Christopher Chester will be paid $15m.
