The Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, has said the security threats being experienced in the country will soon become history.

General Irabor, made this remark at the National church service to mark this years’ Armed Forces Remembrance Day .

“I would like to specially commend members of the armed forces, especially the veterans who laid the foundation on which we are building upon to bring peace and security to every part of the country." He said. 

"There are challenges but the challenges are not as much as where we started from. That gives hope for everyone that as we go into the year, that there is ample opportunity to escalate the actions that brought the peace that we now enjoy and also to take it to another level where there would be no need for anyone to live in fear in any part of the country.” He further highlighted. 

The Chief of Army staff, Lt Gen Farouk Yahaya, while delivering his goodwill message, at the event, noted that the Celebration, is organised yearly in recognition of our fallen heroes. These are gallant men and women, who paid the ultimate price in the defence of peace, stability, unity and prosperity of our dear nation, Nigeria and the world at large.

He reiterated that their huge sacrifices will never be forgotten as many of the fallen heroes laid down their lives amidst the First and Second World Wars, Nigerian Civil War, Peace Support Operations across the globe and various Internal Security Operations, including ongoing fight against insurgency, terrorism, banditry and secesionism, amongst other threats to national security. He maintained that care for the injured and maimed personnel will remain a cardinal focus under his watch.

He concluded by praying for the repose of their souls.

Author Salman Rushdie-Ex wife Renders Support

Padma Lakshmi, ex wife to Salman Rushdie, is supporting her ex-husband in his recovery. On Friday, the famed author, Salman Rushdie was stabbed multiple times while on stage in New York City. The "Top Chef" star tweeted Sunday that she is "relieved" Rushdie is "pulling through after Friday's nightmare."  Her tweet reads: "Worried and wordless, can finally exhale," Lakshmi also wrote in her tweet. Rushdie, 75, has long been the subject of threats because of controversy over some of his writings, he has faced years of death threats for his 1988 novel The Satanic Verses.
