Inspector General Of Police Orders The Arrest Of Afro Beat Mega Star, Seun Kuti, He Will Cooperate Says Sowore

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, has ordered the arrest of Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti, who was captured on video assaulting a police officer in uniform reports the Premium Times.

A video circulating on the internet, the singer was seen hitting an officer. However, in the short clip, the officer didn’t retaliate.

The police spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Saturday, said the incident occurred in Lagos.

Mr Kuti is the youngest child of the late Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti.

“The IGP has equally ordered a speedy and full investigation into the remote and immediate cause(s) of the assault and prosecution of the suspect accordingly,” the statement reads.

"IGP Usman Alkali Baba assures Nigerians that acts of contempt/disdain for symbols of authority will not be tolerated while offenders of such hideous crimes will be surely brought to book.”

However, in his reaction late Saturday evening, Mr Kuti, on his Instagram handle, said he was the victim in the incident.

He alleged that the officer tried to kill him and his family members.

"He tried to kill me and my family.

I have the proof, but I no dey chase clout,” he posted.

“He has apologised, and I have agreed not to press charges. Make una mind una business make the poor guy no lose him job.”

In a further development, the Vanguard reports, in a series of tweets, the African Action Congress, AA, presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has assured that Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti will cooperate with the police, he however cautioned the police boss against engaging in extrajudicial actions.

According to Sowore: “The @PoliceNG today declared wanted @seunkuti a scion of late Afrobeat king, #FelaAnikulapoKuti over an altercation between a police contingent that rammed into him and his family on the 3rd Mainland bridge in Lagos earlier today.

“I am aware that @seunkuti and his attorneys have agreed to help the @policeng in an effort to unravel circumstances that led to the altercations.

"It must be noted that while these conversations are ongoing for full cooperation with the police, officers of the @PoliceNG including the Inspector General of police must not engage in extra judicial action(s) like they are known for in settling disputes.

“Seun Kuti has agreed to cooperate fully with @policeng as soon as possible.”

$1 Billion Arms Sale To Nigeria-Approved By The US

The U.S. government has announced that it has approved the sale of attack aircraft and other equipments to Nigeria. The aircraft are expected to to be used against terrorists and other gunmen operating in the West African country.
