Media Mogul, Oprah Winfrey Loses Dad

Media mogul Oprah, 68, father Vernon, has died. He was 88.

Vernon, died on Friday after battling cancer. He was a barber and businessman in Nashville.

Oprah, posted a tribute to her father on Saturday.

"Vernon Winfrey 1933-2022," Oprah wrote in the caption. "Less than a week ago we honored my father in his own backyard. My friend and gospel singer Wintley Phipps saluted him with song. He FELT the love and reveled in it until he could no longer speak," the TV host wrote, alongside a video of the moment.

She continued, "Yesterday with family surrounding his bedside I had the sacred honor of witnessing the man responsible for my life, take his last breath. We could feel Peace enter the room at his passing."

"That Peace still abides. All is well. Thank you for your prayers and good thoughts πŸ™πŸΎ," she ended the caption.

Earlier, In June 2021, Oprah also spoke with PEOPLE about her father, ahead of the OWN special, titled: Honoring Our Kings, Celebrating Black Fatherhood.

Oprah said, of her Dad Vernon;

"I had a father who took responsibility for me, even though he knew I could have been somebody else's child."

"My mother and father never married," she added. "They had sex one time. He gets a letter after I'm born saying, 'Send money. You have a daughter.' And the reason he did, he said, is because it could have been him. And the responsibility that he took for me, not just a responsibility but care and love and direction and support as a young teenage girl, is the thing that made the difference in me being who I am now or somebody you would have never, ever heard of."

New Super Eagles Head Coach Appointed

  The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed a new Super Eagles coach.  Portuguese manager Jose Peseiro as the new head coach of the Super Eagles. The NFF endorsed a proposal by its Technical and Development sub-committee for the appointment of the new coach. His appointment follows the sacking of Gernot Rohr earlier this December, 2021. Nevertheless, the interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen will be in charge of the three-time African champions for the African Cup of Nations in Cameroon,  while coach Peseiro will serve as an observer. This decision was made known by the executive committee of the NFF. The NFF says the tournament will be a good avenue for Peseiro to launch a working relationship with Eguavoen, who will revert to his role as technical director of the NFF after the AFCON.
