Boxing great Manny Pacquiao contested for the Philippines presidency.
His bid for the top job started in typical bold style: a livestream broadcast of himself riding in a coach emblazoned with "Man of Destiny" through Manila's morning traffic to file his candidacy.
As part of his campaign promises, he vowed to jail corrupt politicians and arrest drug users. He however admitted having used crystal meth and marijuana when he was much younger. Tough talk on drugs and crime failed to hit the mark with voters.
Pacquiao received fewer than four million votes or 6.8 percent of votes counted.
His ambition for his people failed to deliver a win and he lost Monday election by a huge margin that saw him a distant third, behind winner Ferdinand Marcos Junior, who got more than half the votes, and runner-up Leni Robredo.
Pre-election surveys had earlier shown that Pacquiao had no chance of winning.
The boxing hero was pulled out of poverty by the sport.
Try again champ!!!
