NLC Threatens A Fresh Strike Action If... As Ultimatum Ends Today

The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC will meet next week to decide when to begin an indefinite nationwide strike.

The ultimatum by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, to the Federal Government, to address the mass suffering and pains occasioned by the removal of subsidy on petrol expires today.

The NLC had earlier embarked on a two-day nationwide warning strike on Tuesday, September 5 and Wednesday 6.

The action was to protest the perceived insensitivity to the plights and sufferings of Nigerians, following the removal of subsidy by the Federal government, amongst others.

It was also gathered that the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, alongside the Vice President, are putting together a package, including wage awards, to be presented to the NLC leadership, to mitigate the strike planned action.

Some of the demands of the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) are: wage award, tax exemptions and allowances to public sector workers, provision of Compressed Natural Gas buses, release of modalities for the N70bn for Small and Medium Enterprises, release of officials of the National Union of Road Transport Workers by the police, Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria crisis in Lagos, among others.
