Atiku Abubakar is the PDP Presidential flag bearer, he clinched the Presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 general election. Atiku polled 371 votes. Distinguished pharmacist, business man and Director Diaspora Directorate Atiku Presidential Campaign, Professor Isa Odidi, is live at the convention and can be seen in the video below, as he joyfully joins the victory count. Atiku Abubakar's closest challenger, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, the Governor of Rivers State, polled 237 votes. The Former President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki pulled 70 votes.

The CBN Governor Drops Presidential Ambition: Godwin Emefiele withdraws suit against INEC, AGF

The Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), on Monday, withdrew the suit he filed against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Attorney-General of the Federation over his presidential ambition. This development was made known via Godwin Emefiele's counsel, S.T. Maliki to Justice Ahmed Mohammed. Shortly after the matter was called, S.T. Maliki made it known to the judge that a notice of discontinuance had been filed and served on the defendants in the matter. Maliki, who held the brief of Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, said though the matter was scheduled for mention, they had Emefiele’s instruction to withdraw the suit. The Economic And Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)-Arrest The Accountant General Of The Federation, Ahmed Idris

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it has arrested the Accountant general of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, in connection with diversion of funds and money laundering activities to the tune of N80bn. The Spokesman for the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, said this in a statement on Monday titled, ‘EFCC arrests Ahmed Idris, Accountant General of the Federation, for N80bn Fraud’, that is about $200m (£162m) of public funds. The commission said Mr Idris had used family members and close associates to defraud the government and invest the proceeds in real estate in Nigeria. EFCC spokesman Wilson Uwujaren said Idris was arrested after failing to honour the Commission’s invitations. “The Commission’s verified intelligence showed that the AGF raked off the funds through bogus consultancies and other illegal activities using proxies, family members and close associates,” Uwujaren said in a statement. “The funds were laundered through real estate investments in Kano and Abuja.” There

Sokoto State, On A 24 Hour Curfew

The Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal has imposed a 24 hour curfew in Sokoto State, following street protest, which later turned violent. In another development, the Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum (NGF) forum Simon Lalong and Governor of Plateau State in a statement, condemned the killing of Deborah Samuel, a student of Shehu Shagari College of Education Sokoto who was killed on allegations of blasphemy. On Friday President Muhammadu Buhari condemned a mob action, resulting in violence, destruction and killing of a second-year student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto State, Miss Deborah Samuel. Deborah Samuel, was killed on Thursday following an allegation that she had blasphemed Muhammad (SAW), the prophet of Islam. In a statement by his media aide, Garba Shehu, President Buhari said the news of the killing of the young lady by fellow students was a matter of concern. He, therefore, demanded an impartial, extensive probe into all that happened before and during the incident. North Korea Confirms First COVID Outbreak

A Miracle: Passenger With No Flying Experience Lands Plane To Safety After Pilot Fell Ill

When the pilot of the Cessna Caravan suffered an apparent medical emergency, he became “incapacitated," after take off from Leonard M. Thompson International Airport in the Bahamas and the plane was over the Florida coastline, with no co-pilot by his side. The only available remedy to the severe situation was an unidentified passenger who took over the controls and radioed for help. An unnamed passenger, with no prior flying skills and who was heading home to see his pregnant wife, decided to have a go at the private plane. Alabama Corrections Officer Escapes With Inmate

Vicky White, 56, a female prison guard, went on the run with a murder suspect from an Alabama. The two had vanished from a prison in Lauderdale County on 29 April. It is believed that the two had been romantically involved. As reported by the BBC, Ms White recently sold her home, she informed colleagues that she planned to spend most of her time at the beach. Ms White's last day at work, before retirement, she was seen transporting Casey White to a bogus mental health evaluation. Casey White was charged in September 2020 with murder over the stabbing of 58-year-old Connie Ridgeway. He was already serving 75 years for a series of violent crimes in 2015, including burglary, vehicle theft and a police chase. He allegedly confessed to the murder, but later pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, and was awaiting trial at the Lauderdale County Jail when he disappeared, authorities added. Presidential Bid-The CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele Accuses The National Electoral Commission, INEC, Of Plot To Disqualify Him

The governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, of a plot to disqualify him from contesting in the bid for the Presidency of Nigeria.  Emefiele, approached the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, yesterday, he filed a suit through his team of lawyers, led by Mike Ozekhome, SAN. He explained to the court that both INEC and the Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF, Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN, are “making frantic efforts” to ensure that he does not participate in the presidential primaries he said has been scheduled for May 30 and June 1. Consequently, he prayed the court to order INEC and the AGF to maintain status quo ante bellum (allow things to remain the way they are) and not compel him to resign from his position as CBN Governor, until 30 days to the general elections. ASUU- Union May Go On Full Blown Strike As Warning Strike Ends Today

As the the eight-week warning strike embarked upon by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, ends today, there is a likelihood that the union may go on full blown strike action, an indefinite industrial action. The National leadership of the union is poise to inform the public of its decision today. The union had earlier gone on a month warning strike on February 14 this year, and extended it by another eight weeks, which comes to an end today. The National Executive Committee, NEC, of the union had before given the go ahead to the national leadership to call out members on indefinite strike, if nothing definite was attained during the eight weeks of their warning strike. While ASUU was into the second round of its warning strike, other staff unions in the university system also embarked on strike. APC Sets Precondition For Submitting The expression Of Interest And Nomination Forms, For Presidential Aspirants-370 Statutory Delegates Must Sign Alongside.

The ruling party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, has set as a precondition for submitting the expression of interest and nomination forms, for presidential aspirants. As reported by the Punch news, the aspirants are to submit with the forms the signatures of 10 statutory delegates from each state and the Federal Capital Territory. Aspirants are required to get the signatures of 370 statutory delegates, covering the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.  About 30 aspirants have so far declared interest in the coveted office on the APC platform while about 17 have obtained forms already.
