64-Year Old Kathy Hochul Becomes First Elected Woman Governor Of New York. Democrat Kathy Hochul retains the office she took over in 2021 when former Gov. Andrew Cuomo resigned. New York Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul defeated Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin and she also made history as the first elected female governor of New York. Kathy Hochul assures;  "I’m not here to make history, I’m here to make a difference”, Hochul told supporters after her triumph. “I may be New York’s first woman governor, but I know I won’t be the last”, she tweeted on Wednesday.

The People’s Democratic Party  (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) are trading blame over an attack on the campaign convoy of presidential candidate of the PDP, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, in Maiduguri. According to ThisDay News, the spokesman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)’s Presidential Campaign Team, Dino Melaye alleged that at least 74 persons were hospitalised while several vehicles were vandalised as hoodlums attacked the  attacked the campaig  convoy of Atiku Wednesday. Melaye, made the allegation during the party’s campaign rally in Maiduguri, accusing the All Progressives Congress (APC) of trying to stop PDP’s campaign in the state by deploying thugs to attack them. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has indicated that the Federal Government may not fully pay university lecturers for the eighth months that the Academic Staff Union of Universities was on strike. Ramon Abbas popularly referred to as  ‘HUSHPUPPI,' has been sentenced to 11 years in prison in the United States. The instagram 'big boy,' will however, spend nine years in prison because he had spent two years already in the US following his arrest in Dubai in 2020. In June 2020, Hushpuppi was arrested in Dubai over an extensive fraud scheme that has robbed victims of their money in the U.S, Qatar, the United Kingdom, and other places. In a final appeal to judge Otis Wright ahead of his scheduled sentencing on September 19, Hushpuppi wrote a personal letter to the court narrating his source of wealth, criminal adventure and regrets. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been given permission to  temporarily seize 40 properties traced to Ike Ekweremadu by the Federal High Court in Abuja. On Friday, after listening to an ex-parte application filed by the EFCC, the judge, Inyang Ekwo, handed down the interim forfeiture order for Ekweremadu's properties. Ibrahim Buba a lawyer with the EFCC, moved the application for the confiscation of the assets, saying they were suspicious proceeds of crime. The founder and former CEO of the microblogging website Twitter, is set to launch 'Bluesky' after Elon Musk, owner of Tesla cars and the world richest man took over ownership of Twitter. At the moment, Bluesky’s services are in beta testing phase as it prepares for a global launch.  Jack Dorsey's decentralized social-media platform, Bluesky Social, is now accepting beta users. The news coincides with Musk's takeover of Twitter, which Dorsey founded and ran for several years. Dorsey left Twitter in 2021 and named Parag Agrawal, whom Musk quickly fired, as his successor. The members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have tackled the federal government for not paying them full salaries. ASUU had embarked on strike on February 14 to press home the demand for improved funding for universities, review of salaries for lecturers, among other issues. According to TheCable News; Amid the back-and-forth over the union’s demands, the federal government had threatened not to pay the lecturers for the strike period, but a review of the decision was said to be under consideration. On October 14, the union suspended its strike and directed members to resume work immediately. The decision to suspend the strike came days after the court of appeal sitting in Abuja ordered the union to call off its strike. Members of the union, who spoke with TheCable on Thursday, said despite the suspension of the strike, the government is yet to pay them full salaries. Amanda Azubuike, has been promoted from Lieutenant Colonel to Brigadier General of the United States Army at a military base in Fort Knox, Kentucky, USA.  Azubuike was born in London, United Kingdom, to Nigerian parents, and joined the US Army in 1994 where she rose to the position of an aviator after passing the Army Aviation Officer Basic Course. The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Wednesday disclosed to his supporters that it is insulting and disrespectful to mention the name of the deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos, Funke Akindele, in his presence. Tinubu made the remark while meeting with some of his supporters at the Lagos APC Secretariat. Tinubu’s supporters in a song had compared the actress cum producer to an “ant” in the presence of the presidential candidate. Speaking in Yoruba language, he said “Don’t even behave as if you remember the name. “It is a big insult, it is an abuse. A fowl wants to enter a house, it is bending down, how tall is it in the first place.”

Commuters in Lagos, Nigeria, trekked for several hours to get to their destinations as commercial bus drivers in Lagos State, under the aegis of the Joint Drivers’ Welfare Association of Nigeria, JDWAN, commenced a seven-day strike. Other transporters, commercial tricycles, known as Keke Marwa and minibuses called Korope, took advantage of the strike and hiked transport fares by 100 percent. The strike action commenced yesterday. The bus drivers are calling on the state government to stop extortion of their members by men of motor parks and garages management, miscreants (agberos) and government officials in the state. A meeting was held by the aggrieved transporters and the Lagos State government but the meeting ended in a deadlock. The ongoing strike action has paralyzed commercial and human activities. Isa Odidi, the co-founder of Intellipharmaceutics Inc, a publicly traded company in North America, says Atiku Abubakar is the best candidate to work with Nigerians in the diaspora. In a statement on Sunday, Odidi, a director mobilising support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the diaspora, said with Atiku as president, Nigerians abroad would contribute their quota to nation-building. “Atiku is the best prepared and capable leader to turn around Nigeria,” the Canada-based professor said.
