A man who got into the grounds of Windsor Castle armed with a crossbow told police he wanted to “kill the queen,” prosecutors said during a court hearing Wednesday. Jaswant Singh Chail, 20, is charged under the Treason Act with intending to “injure the person of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, or to alarm her Majesty.” He has also been charged with threats to kill and possession of an offensive weapon. Chail was arrested at the royal residence west of London on Christmas Day 2021, when the queen was staying there. Prosecutors allege the former supermarket worker from Southampton in southern England was wearing a hood and a mask and carrying a loaded crossbow with the safety catch off. They say he told a police officer “I am here to kill the Queen,” before he was handcuffed and arrested.  On Thursday, Emirates Airlines announced the suspension of its flight operations in Nigeria from September 1, 2022. It said the suspension became necessary following its inability to repatriate its funds from Nigeria. International carriers operating in Nigeria have repeatedly complained about their inability to repatriate funds to their home countries. They have raised this concern on many occasions with officials of the Federal Ministry of Aviation, as well as those at the finance ministry. In its statement on Thursday, Emirates Airlines stated that it “has tried every avenue to address our ongoing challenges in repatriating funds from Nigeria, and we have made considerable efforts to initiate dialogue with the relevant authorities for their urgent intervention to help find a viable solution.” It added, “Regrettably there has been no progress. The strike action is scheduled to commence today. Padma Lakshmi, ex wife to Salman Rushdie, is supporting her ex-husband in his recovery. On Friday, the famed author, Salman Rushdie was stabbed multiple times while on stage in New York City. The "Top Chef" star tweeted Sunday that she is "relieved" Rushdie is "pulling through after Friday's nightmare."  Her tweet reads: "Worried and wordless, can finally exhale," Lakshmi also wrote in her tweet. The Senate Public Accounts Committee (SPAC) has put the current and past management of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) under scrutiny. The committee said it discovered that the fund’s management failed to produce relevant documents to justify alleged spending of N17.158 billion in 2013. Some of the documents to back the expenses were said to have been eaten up by termites. The Office of the Auditor General of the Federation (OAuGF), in its 2018 audit report – now being considered by the Senate panel chaired by Senator Matthew Urhoghide (Edo South) – had queried the agency over the disbursed sums without appropriate supporting documents. The OAuGF had, in its 2018 audit report, raised 50 different queries bordering on alleged misappropriation of funds against the agency. The Chairman of TMG, Awwal Ibrahim Rafsanjani, said that incorporating the roles of a Minister and a spokesman was going to conflict with his duties as minister. Mr. Festus Keyamo has defended his continued stay in office, despite accepting to serve as campaign spokesman for the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Catholic Bishop of Uyo Diocese, John Ebebe Ayah recently turned down an offer from the Cross Rivers State Governor, Ben Ayade to his church. He advised the Governor to use the money to pay the salaries of workers in the state.' his was captured in a viral video online. Governor Ayade of Cross Rivers State made a donation of N25 million on behalf of the state government, his family and the judiciary. He was a special guest of honour in the church service in Calabar. The Chief of Defence Staff, Lucky Irabor, on Tuesday said those behind the Owo attack have been arrested. Irabor stated this during a meeting with editors and media executives in Abuja. According to him, the suspects would be paraded after an investigation has been concluded into the matter. “We have arrested those behind the dastardly act in Owo. “It was my intention to present them to the public, but because of the investigation still going on, I had to change my mind.” Said Irabor. The Japanese fashion designer Issey Miyake, renowned for his innovative pleated clothing and for producing 100 mock turtlenecks for the Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, has died of liver cancer in a hospital in Tokyo.
