Breaking News! President Muhammadu Buhari Insists Old N500, N1,000 Notes No Longer Valid, Approves Old N200 Notes

On Thursday morning the Nigerian President announced via a nationwide broadsheet to Nigerians, that the N500, N1,000 are no longer valid.

He also apologised to Nigerians over the difficulties experienced in accessing the scarce newly redesigned Naira notes.

Last week, the Supreme Court had given an interim order for the continued use of all the old notes until it finally rules on the suit filed by some state governors.

However while sitting on Wednesday, the Supreme Court did not reverse that order, hence its validity remains. But the court adjourned the suit to 22 February.

Extract from the President's speech below;

"To further ease the supply pressures particularly to our citizens, I have given approval to the CBN that the old N200 bank notes be released back into circulation and that it should also be allowed to circulate as legal tender with the new N200, N500, and N1000 banknotes for 60 days from February 10, 2023 to April 10 2023 when the old N200 notes ceases to be legal tender,”  Buhari said.

“In line with Section 20(3) of the CBN Act 2007, all existing old N1000 and N500 notes remain redeemable at the CBN and designated points.”

A Must Read! Fuel Subsidy, A Small Set Of Powerful Nigerians Controlled Our Economy – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu on Monday during a nationwide broadcast maintained that the fuel subsidy had to go. The President added that the once useful measure had outlived its usefulness and has cost Nigeria trillions of naira yearly.                   President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Tinubu, said that the wealth of Nigerians was given out to a handful of people through fuel subsidy, for several years and multiple exchange rates before he came on board. The President further highlighted that, "Such a vast sum of money would have been better spent on public transportation, healthcare, schools, housing and even national security. Instead, it was being funnelled into the deep pockets and lavish bank accounts of a select group of individuals. "This group had amassed so much wealth and power that they became a serious threat to the fairness of our economy and the integrity of our democratic governance. "To be blunt, Nigeria could never become the society i...

Music From Universal Music Group Will No Longer Feature On TikTok

Universal Music Group will no longer allow its music on TikTok following the Wednesday expiration of a licensing deal between the two companies. The takedown of UMG-related music began overnight.  Universal Music Group is literally the largest record label ... in the history of the music industry,” said Andrew Mall, an associate professor of music at Northeastern University. An “uncountable number of tracks and sounds” would be impacted on TikTok, he added, significantly limiting options for creators." The expiration of licensing between UMG and TikTok arrived after the two companies were unable to reach a new agreement — and soon shared heated exchanges. In a Tuesday letter addressed to artists and songwriters, UMG said that it had been pressing TikTok on three issues: “appropriate compensation for our artists and songwriters, protecting human artists from the harmful effects of AI, and online safety for TikTok’s users.” UMG said that TikTok proposed paying its artists and songwr...

A man who got into the grounds of Windsor Castle armed with a crossbow told police he wanted to “kill the queen,” prosecutors said during a court hearing Wednesday. Jaswant Singh Chail, 20, is charged under the Treason Act with intending to “injure the person of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, or to alarm her Majesty.” He has also been charged with threats to kill and possession of an offensive weapon. Chail was arrested at the royal residence west of London on Christmas Day 2021, when the queen was staying there. Prosecutors allege the former supermarket worker from Southampton in southern England was wearing a hood and a mask and carrying a loaded crossbow with the safety catch off. They say he told a police officer “I am here to kill the Queen,” before he was handcuffed and arrested. Prosecutor Kathryn Selby said the Supersonic X-Bow weapon allegedly carried by Chail had the potential to cause “serious or fatal injuries.” Prosecution lawyers maintain Chail wanted revenge on the Brit...
