  The Resource Centre for Human Rights & Civic Education (CHRICED) has faulted the Federal Government’s $1 million donations to Afghanistan’s Taliban government, saying the move made no economic sense, according to the Guardian news. A staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Okorie Anthony was shot dead yesterday, by unknown gunmen numbering about 12. The men stormed the Ihitte Uboma local government area in Imo State at the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration Exercise, CVR.   Former Governors, Joshua Dariye, of Plateau State and Jolly Nyame of Taraba States, who were serving terms in jail for corruption have been granted state pardon by the National Council of State. A total of 159 prisoners were pardoned by the Council at a meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa in Abuja on Thursday. Among the beneficiaries are a former military general and minister under the Sani Abacha regime, Tajudeen Olanrewaju, an army lieutenant colonel, Akiyode, who was an aide of former deputy to General Abacha, Oladipo Diya; and all the junior officers jailed over the 1990 abortive Gideon Orkar coup. The Supreme Court upheld Mr Jolly Nyame conviction in February 2020. Mr Nyame is 66 years old and was governor of Taraba State from 1999 to 2007. The U.S. government has announced that it has approved the sale of attack aircraft and other equipments to Nigeria. The aircraft are expected to to be used against terrorists and other gunmen operating in the West African country. According to a statement Thursday by the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency, the equipments are to cost Nigeria about $997 million. The acquisition of the aircraft and other equipments comes less than a year after the U.S. government supplied the country with 12 units of super tucano aircrafts paid for by Nigeria. PREMIUM TIMES had last year reported that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) had taken delivery of the second batch of six A-29 Super Tucano aircraft from the United States. Okagbare was provisionally suspended for testing positive for human growth hormone in July 2021, just hours before her 100m semifinals at Tokyo Olympics. She was later handed a 10-year ban by the world anti-doping agency (WADA). Before then, Okagbare was under investigation by an American agency for some other misdemeanours. The Managing Director of the Bank of Agriculture, Alwan Ali-Hassan was on Wednesday set free by terrorists who attacked a Kaduna-bound train after his family paid N100 million as ransom, SaharaReporters has gathered. Ali-Hassan and others were abducted last Monday, March 28 by terrorists who bombed the Kaduna-bound train carrying over 362 passengers. According to the NRC, while about 182 have safely reunited with their families, about 162 other passengers remain missing.
