Hushpuppi Gets 11-Year Jail Term

Ramon Abbas popularly referred to as  ‘HUSHPUPPI,' has been sentenced to 11 years in prison in the United States. The instagram 'big boy,' will however, spend nine years in prison because he had spent two years already in the US following his arrest in Dubai in 2020. In June 2020, Hushpuppi was arrested in Dubai over an extensive fraud scheme that has robbed victims of their money in the U.S, Qatar, the United Kingdom, and other places. In a final appeal to judge Otis Wright ahead of his scheduled sentencing on September 19, Hushpuppi wrote a personal letter to the court narrating his source of wealth, criminal adventure and regrets. Abbas, apologised to his family members for bringing them shame while commending the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for doing a thorough job in bringing him to justice.

Court Grants The Interim Forfeiture Of 40 Ekweremadu’s Property

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been given permission to  temporarily seize 40 properties traced to Ike Ekweremadu by the Federal High Court in Abuja. On Friday, after listening to an ex-parte application filed by the EFCC, the judge, Inyang Ekwo, handed down the interim forfeiture order for Ekweremadu's properties. Ibrahim Buba a lawyer with the EFCC, moved the application for the confiscation of the assets, saying they were suspicious proceeds of crime.   Jack Dorsey, is launching a new social media platform called "Bluesky." The founder and former CEO of the microblogging website Twitter, is set to launch 'Bluesky' after Elon Musk, owner of Tesla cars and the world richest man took over ownership of Twitter. At the moment, Bluesky’s services are in beta testing phase as it prepares for a global launch.  Jack Dorsey's decentralized social-media platform, Bluesky Social, is now accepting beta users. ASUU Strike - Lecturers Get ‘Half-Month Pay’ As First Salary

The members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have tackled the federal government for not paying them full salaries. ASUU had embarked on strike on February 14 to press home the demand for improved funding for universities, review of salaries for lecturers, among other issues. According to TheCable News; Amid the back-and-forth over the union’s demands, the federal government had threatened not to pay the lecturers for the strike period, but a review of the decision was said to be under consideration. On October 14, the union suspended its strike and directed members to resume work immediately. The decision to suspend the strike came days after the court of appeal sitting in Abuja ordered the union to call off its strike. Members of the union, who spoke with TheCable on Thursday, said despite the suspension of the strike, the government is yet to pay them full salaries. Lagos Danfo Drivers On Strike - Commuters Suffer

Commuters in Lagos, Nigeria, trekked for several hours to get to their destinations as commercial bus drivers in Lagos State, under the aegis of the Joint Drivers’ Welfare Association of Nigeria, JDWAN, commenced a seven-day strike. Other transporters, commercial tricycles, known as Keke Marwa and minibuses called Korope, took advantage of the strike and hiked transport fares by 100 percent. The strike action commenced yesterday. The bus drivers are calling on the state government to stop extortion of their members by men of motor parks and garages management, miscreants (agberos) and government officials in the state. A meeting was held by the aggrieved transporters and the Lagos State government but the meeting ended in a deadlock. The ongoing strike action has paralyzed commercial and human activities.
