Honourable Abdulmumin Jibrin, the Campaign Director General of APC frontline presidential aspirant, Ahmed Tinubu, has left the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC. He made his decision known via his Twitter handle. He tweeted, “I have done my best for APC. Its time to move on. I will announce my new political party within the next 24 hours insha Allah. I will make a formal statement in due course. Hon Abdulmumin Jibrin.” Jubril in the last weeks aggressively campaigned for Tinubu.  On several platforms, he asserted his position on a Southern presidency. Queen Elizabeth broke a decades-old tradition by excluding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from the most iconic part of the Jubilee celebrations. Only working royals will join the Queen on the balcony at Trooping the Colour this year. Non-working royals were previously allowed to attend the centuries-old event.This year, Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and Prince Andrew will be unable to attend.   The Resource Centre for Human Rights & Civic Education (CHRICED) has faulted the Federal Government’s $1 million donations to Afghanistan’s Taliban government, saying the move made no economic sense, according to the Guardian news. The group also condemned the high cost of the nomination form for presidential aspirants by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that it would pave way for corruption to subsist. Addressing a press conference on the state of the nation in Abuja yesterday, the group’s Executive Director, Ibrahim Zikirullahi, said such a gift to Afghanistan should not come from a government that claims to be fighting terrorism. Reports had it that the donation was to boost Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC) efforts at easing the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan. A staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Okorie Anthony was shot dead yesterday, by unknown gunmen numbering about 12. The men stormed the Ihitte Uboma local government area in Imo State at the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration Exercise, CVR. In a statement  the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, through its spokesperson, Emma Powerful stated that IPOB members were not the ones that attacked INEC staff in Imo.   Former Governors, Joshua Dariye, of Plateau State and Jolly Nyame of Taraba States, who were serving terms in jail for corruption have been granted state pardon by the National Council of State. A total of 159 prisoners were pardoned by the Council at a meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa in Abuja on Thursday. Among the beneficiaries are a former military general and minister under the Sani Abacha regime, Tajudeen Olanrewaju, an army lieutenant colonel, Akiyode, who was an aide of former deputy to General Abacha, Oladipo Diya; and all the junior officers jailed over the 1990 abortive Gideon Orkar coup. The Supreme Court upheld Mr Jolly Nyame conviction in February 2020. Mr Nyame is 66 years old and was governor of Taraba State from 1999 to 2007. He was serving a 12-year jail term at the Kuje prison for misappropriation of funds while he was in office.  Mr Dariye, 64, who governed Plateau between 1999 and 2007, was jailed for stealing N2 billi

The U.S. government has announced that it has approved the sale of attack aircraft and other equipments to Nigeria. The aircraft are expected to to be used against terrorists and other gunmen operating in the West African country. According to a statement Thursday by the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency, the equipments are to cost Nigeria about $997 million. The acquisition of the aircraft and other equipments comes less than a year after the U.S. government supplied the country with 12 units of super tucano aircrafts paid for by Nigeria. PREMIUM TIMES had last year reported that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) had taken delivery of the second batch of six A-29 Super Tucano aircraft from the United States. The first batch also comprising six aircraft was delivered in July 2021.   There were strong indications yesterday that the United States may have dropped ‘all charges’ against Nigerian sprinter, Blessing Okagbare, who is serving a 10-year ban over drugs offences. Okagbare was provisionally suspended for testing positive for human growth hormone in July 2021, just hours before her 100m semifinals at Tokyo Olympics. She was later handed a 10-year ban by the world anti-doping agency (WADA). Before then, Okagbare was under investigation by an American agency for some other misdemeanours. The U.S. Federal authorities had searched Okagbare’s cellphone on her return to the country from the Tokyo Olympics and found she had frequently communicated with Eric Lira, a kinesiologist and naturopathic doctor, who was said to have brought ‘misbranded’ versions of the drugs to the U.S. from Central and South America before distributing them to athletes.
