The Queens-Maya Angelou-First Black Woman Featured On US Quarter Coin

Today's article on the Queens, please meet an extraordinarily woman. The first Black woman featured on US quarter coin is Maya Angelou. The poet and activist is shown with outstretched arms on the coin, which the Treasury Department has begun to circulate. The 25-cent coin, which shows Angelou with outstretched arms, went into circulation on Monday. Angelou, author of “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings,” will also be the first figure commemorated through the American Women Quarters Program, which was signed into law in January 2021. Angelou, who was born in Missouri in 1928, was an essayist and poet who worked with Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X during the Civil Rights Movement. CANADA-Exceptionally High Risk For Travel

Canada has an extreme high risk, the Country is deemed 'very high' risk for travel. (CNN) — Canada was moved to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's highest-risk category for travel on Monday. The world's second-largest country by total area, Canada has seen a steep rise in cases as the Omicron variant spreads. The country recorded 294,437 new cases for the week ending January 8, according to Johns Hopkins University figures, its highest weekly total of the pandemic. Canada was joined by one other destination -- the Caribbean island of Curaçao in moving up to the CDC's Level 4: Covid-19 Very High category on Monday. The CDC places a destination at Level 4 when more than 500 cases per 100,000 residents are registered in the past 28 days. The CDC advises travelers to avoid travel to Level 4 countries. BREAKING NEWS-Ernest Shonekan Dies at 85

One time Nigerian Interim leader, Ernest Shonekan dies at 85. He was the interim head of the Nigerian government between August 26 and November 17, 1993, before he was ousted in a coup led by late General Sani Abacha. Chief Ernest Shonekan was head of the interim National Government that succeeded the junta of General Ibrahim Babangida. Shonekan died at Evercare hospital, in the Lekki area of Lagos state, at the age of 85. Chief Ernest Adegunle Oladeinde Shonekan GCFR (9 May 1936 – 11 January 2022), titled Abese of Egbaland from 1981 (in addition to a variety of other chieftaincy titles), was a Nigerian lawyer and statesman who served as the interim Head of State of Nigeria from 26 August 1993 to 17 November 1993. Tinubu Declares-I Will Be Contesting The Presidency

  Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared interest in contesting 2023 presidency. The ex-Lagos governor told correspondents after his meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari that he informed the president of his intention to contest, during their meeting earlier on Monday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said he will definitely contest for president in the 2023 general elections. While speaking with journalists at the State House, Tinubu said it has been his life-long ambition to be president of Nigeria. He said with his achievements as governor of Lagos, he has the capacity to rule Nigeria. Tinubu also refused to answer question of a potential race for the APC ticket between him and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who is also believed to be interested in contesting for president come 2023. Money Laundering-Mopha, Re-arrested By The EFCC

Once Again The EFCC arrests Nigerian socialite, Mompha for ‘money laundering’. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has re-arrested suspected internet fraudster, Ismailia Mustapha popularly known as Mompha. Mompha was nabbed on Monday for “laundering funds” obtained through unlawful activities and retention of alleged proceeds of crime. EFCC Head of Media, Wilson Uwujaren, made the disclosure in a statement. Mompha is already standing trial alongside his company, Ismalob Global Investment Limited. They face an amended 22-count charge bordering on cyber fraud and money laundering to the tune of N32.9billion. Mompha was first nabbed on October 18, 2019 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport while boarding an Emirates flight to Dubai. He was then taken into custody by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) following a watchlist by the EFCC.
