Breaking! A Section Of Balogun Market, Lagos Island Gutted By Fire

A section of a five-storey building in popular Balogun Market, Lagos Island was today, Tuesday gutted by fire, the cause and magnitude of the fire are yet unknown. However, emergency response units, the police, security agencies and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), arrived at the scene of the fire and carried out a rescue operation. Substantiating the incident, Jubril Gawat, a media aide Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said: “The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is currently attending to a Fire outbreak at the famous Balogun Market which involved the topmost floor of a five storey building. “The Fire is however under control as mitigation are on to limits it spread.”

Abductors of six Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Officials, in Kogi State, have demanded for N50 million before they would release their kidnap victims. Recall some INEC staff were abducted in Obajana in the early hours of Sunday, 19th March 2023 during the Kogi State House of Assembly election. The victims were said to be returning from Kupa North and South under Lokoja Local Government Area in Kogi State when they were attacked by armed hoodlums. Breaking! Court of Appeal Dismisses PDP’s Suit Against Tinubu, Shettima On Double Nomination

Actions by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to get the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima disqualified by the courts for an alleged double nomination of Shettima have hit a brick wall at the Court of Appeal. On Friday, the court held that the PDP does not have the locus standi to institute, maintain or demand the reliefs it sought as it was not an aspirant in the primaries of the APC and that Section 285 (14) (c ) of the 1999 Constitution does not grant it locus to challenge either the primaries or the nomination of Shettima. The appeal was consequently dismissed by the Court for want of merit and awarded in favour of each of the respondents, namely APC, its Presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Senator Shettima and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the sum of N5 million. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has directed public sector workers in the country to embark on strike on Wednesday next week. The NLC president, Joe Ajaero, gave the directive at a media briefing in Abuja on Wednesday. He also directed that affiliate unions constituting the NLC should be on standby for picketing exercises across all branches of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) nationwide. The NLC had earlier issued a seven-day ultimatum to the federal government to end the petrol and cash scarcity being encountered in the country. Ajaero told journalists, that following the expiration of the ultimatum given, the industrial action became the last resolve of the NLC. He also said that the federal government and the CBN have failed to show any commitment to addressing the dilemma, so the decision to picket CBN branches became necessary. Two of four journalists who were detained in January after a video appearing to show South Sudan president wetting his trousers at a public function have been released reports the BBC. The Union of Journalists of South Sudan (UJOSS) said in a statement that it welcomed the release of Victor Ladu and Mustapha Osman. The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has said the 2023 population and housing census earlier scheduled for March 29 has been shifted to May 2023. While briefing the State House correspondents at the end of the meeting of the Federal Executive Council presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday in Abuja. The minister explained that the decision to shift the census was necessitated by the postponement of the gubernatorial and State Assembly elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from the 11th of March 2023 11 the 18th of March 2023. Breaking! Governorship, State Assembly Elections Postponed By The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) To March 18, 2023

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reached a decision to postpone Saturday’s governorship and state assembly elections to March 18, 2023. The postponement was due to the commission’s inability to promptly commence reconfiguration of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines utilized during the February 25 presidential election to enable their use in the state elections. INEC was earlier restrained from tampering with the information embedded in the BVAS machines until due inspection was conducted and Certified True Copies (CTC) issued to candidates who are challenging the outcome of the presidential election.
