EVERYDAY PEOPLE

THIS THING CALLED POVERTY!

A DIRE SITUATION!

Written By Janet Odidi Obuotor.

The Nigerian saying; "Poverty a bastard!" Is so so true.

Hello Poverty, the vast majority of Nigerians have fallen into your cruel embrace. Suddenly, without a warning, you made them sign the dotted lines of 'UNHOLY' wedlock.

Morning In Africa, An African Mother Going About Her Business For The Day - To Provide Food For Her Family.

Our Dear Elected Leaders, Poverty is real.

There is hunger in the land, many are impoverished.  The dichotomy between the 'haves' and the 'have not' is widening. There is an upsurge in job loss among the working class.

The business sector is also not spared, it suffers from;

1. A hostile business environment, made up of a lack of technical know-how and an extremely high cost of financing businesses.
2. A lack of funds for starting and sustaining businesses.
3. Poor electricity supply.

Simply put, basic infrastructure is absent.

Furthermore, corruption, inflation and poor legislation all play a role in stiffening the economy.

It is truly an alarming situation!

Nonetheless, the saying goes life must go on;
The house rent must be paid.
The electricity tariffs loom.
The water bills linger.
The gas must be provided.
The trash and sewer bills must be paid for proper waste disposal.
Subscriptions like cable TV, internet, security and phone services persist.
The tuition fees stare you in the eye.
Our bellies grumble for food.
What about medical care?

We are indeed trapped in an economic quagmire of confusion. Confused because the solutions to our Nation's woes seem so simple to achieve. Yet so difficult to implement.

As we step out in search of our daily bread, with hope for a better future, may our leaders step forward and do the right thing.

As we approach a New Year, a prayer to the creator we say:

"Our dear maker, never let this thing befall us, keep us financially, mentally, and emotionally stable, bless the work of our hands. Help us to provide and take care of our fellow humans in need. Keep it away from us, this thing called poverty."

The Queens-Abandoning Her Own Ambition To Raise Up Greatness!

"The Queens," celebrating womanhood, the 'preserver' of the Society.  In Today's article, we meet Angela Odidi, a mother who sacrificed her life's ambition of becoming a nurse, to give her all to her children. This is indeed a noble sacrifice. Her intelligence, she embedded in her children, her knowledge she implanted, her wit and charisma she got rooted in them. Odidi, instilled in them, her strength and discipline. She thought them to be compassionate and empathetic towards everyone. Of course, her beauty, nature, entrenched in them. A lot of women all around the world fall into similar situations, they give away their life's hope and childhood dreams, they step aside for others to fill these shoes. We celebrate you, women! Queens indeed, each with her crown. We see; we observe, we remember, we appreciate! Angela Odidi is an avid reader and lover of books. Fluent in languages; English, Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba. NEWSBREAKING: Nigerian Government Lifts Twitter Ban

Twitter. On Wednesday, Mr. Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, the head of the Nigerian team negotiating with Twitter has said that the social media giant Twitter has agreed to pay “applicable tax” and establish a legal entity in Nigeria in the first quarter of 2022. Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi is the director-general of the National Information Technology Development Agency,  said this in a statement while announcing the lifting of the more than six-month-long suspension of the social media platform in the country. “Twitter has agreed to act with a respectful acknowledgement of Nigerian laws and the national culture and history on which such legislation has been built and work with the FGN and the broader industry to develop a Code of Conduct in line with global best practices, applicable in almost all developed countries,” Abdullahi said. Twitter was suspended in Nigeria in June 2021, a few days after the platform deleted a remark from Buhari’s account. The led to an outcry over freedom of expr...
